Springtime Skills Training
Back to school! Treading the line between offering a challenging and fun activity that everyone finds exciting, and allows all participants to push themselves beyond what they may do on their own - while still feeling secure - is a complicated balancing act. Safety and security are paramount so it’s important they are ingrained habits, not relegated to second thoughts we keep our fingers crossed we’ll never have to use.

Fortunately at Frogs we haven't had much call for managing emergancies, but we're all too aware how quickly mole-hills can become mountains if don't keep our skills honed and updated. And this is why Jeremy has been keen to get involved in Rescue 3 France.

It's a wonderful time of year for hiking : the incredible yellows, oranges and reds of autumn and leaves floating down from on high, and snowy peaks lining horizons hinting at the winter to come. But there are a couple of things to consider before you go....

What's happening to the Dranse in the drought
We’ve had lots of people contacting us worrying that the severe water restrictions are going to impact their rafting - we fully understand why : with all the images of dry river beds around France, how can we possibly still be rafting?

Our rafts are nevertheless pretty substantial - even if you're with others, you're well spaced out ! We're really happy to be able to welcome more people, but rest assured we are sticking to the hygiene protocols we put in place last year - we found them really helpful, and we'll be keeping them regardless of any easing of regulations ! If you have any concerns about sharing rafts we offer private boats, so you can always elect to rent a boat and a guide for your own party - just ask us for details and prices. Read on for more info about what to expect if you visit...

How to make a hydrospeed...
White-water swimming has been done in France since the late 1970s when some crazy Parisians filled their backpacks with inner tubes, strapped them to their fronts and went head first down the rapids. In 1978 the backpacks were replaced by hard plastic floats with metal handles (painful if you got one in the face) and hydrospeeds and hydrospeeding were born. The plastic floats gradually progressed to the light-weight, manoeuvrable, foam floats we have now. This spring, thanks to Covid lockdowns, Jeremy learned how to make hydrospeeds....

An Extraordinary Winter
The cogs are turning (slowly!) and it looks like a return to something like normality might be on its way - that’s how we’re determined to see it anyway! At the moment we can offer cano-rafting (2 person inflatables), air boating (one person inflatables), and hydrospeeding. These activities are suitable for people of 12 years and over, and do require a level of competence in the water as it’s likely you’re going to get wet!
